UTILIZING COFFEE GROUNDS TO GROW FRESH VEGETABLE FOR FAMILIES IN CITIES

Nowadays、 the uncontrolled use of chemical fertilizers and pesticide makes vegetable and fruit be intoxicated and affect to people's health. Therefore、 fresh vegetable is always a great question of consumers. Another problem is domestic waste、 which is also a big problem to be resolved. The question is that can we use domestic waste for planting fresh vegetable? The answer is yes. So that we have created the model The system utilizing coffee grounds to grow fresh vegetable for families in cities.
The system is divided into three parts: The first is the frame、 made from the V technical steel that offers us a beautiful and convenient place for putting the vegetable tray to save space.
The second is the watering system. For the convenience for busy families in cities、 we use a small watering system which is programmed on watering time to save labor and ensure the best growth of vegetable.
The third and also the most important part is to use coffee grounds mixing with soil for planting. After collecting coffee grounds and drying them out、 then mixing with 5% lime powder by weight、 then watering and fermenting within one week. After that、 coffee grounds are dried out within 30 minutes. After that、 mix them with soil with percentage by volume. Experiments show that the best result is with the percentage of 30% coffee grounds. High rate of sprouting、 fast growth rate、 good ability of keeping water、 strong taste of vegetable and especially it reduces the damage by snails、 grey pests because the coffee odor is the natural drive-away substance of these two species.
