Water Disinfection using Low-Voltage Ultrviolet (UV) Light

Description of Invention

Tap water is treated with chemicals for disinfection and generally is regarded as suitable for drinking. However、 chlorine-resistant microorganisms such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia may still exist in the water. UV disinfection is a technique for producing potable water efficiently without use of chemicals、 with the added benefit of deactivating chlorine-resistant microorganisms. UV disinfection is、 thus、 capable of safeguarding our water supplies to an extent that other approaches cannot. The use of UV for disinfection involves the generation of UV light with the desired germicidal properties、 and the transmission of that light to microbial pathogens in the water.
The invention is a small、 portable UV water disinfection device using low-powered UV LED. The device does not require permanent power sources (preferably self-powered) and is easy to install and remove by the user.
