In order to continue the growth of an industrial economy based on the development of science and technology in the future, it is indispensable to foster the creative ability and imaginative ability of young people who pave the way for subsequent generations in Japan.
The JIII expects that schoolchildren will experience the rewards of creating something, and will grow up as talented individuals having great respect for science and creative powers.
Since 1974, when the 70th Anniversary of its foundation was celebrated, JIII has made efforts to set up Invention Clubs for Schoolchildren throughout the country for the purpose of fostering children' s dreams and passion for science and technology while respecting their unrestrained imagination and the nurturing of their creative characters. At the present time, 145 Clubs have been set up in 47 prefectures in Japan with the cooperation of local self-governing bodies and science museums. 100,000 schoolchildren and junior high school students in total per year perform work practice, social observation-study and field study in places such as scientific camps. In addition, engineers of enterprises voluntarily visit the Clubs to give lectures on work practice, experiments, etc. to enhanse the Invention Clubs' creative activities.
International Exchange and Promotion of Young People's Creativity
The JIII sends young people who have exhibited excellent works in the yearly exhibition sponsored by the JIII to foreign countries as Overseas Delegates for the Development of Young People's Creativity. The goal is to provide them with the opportunity to learn about science, technology, culture, history, and modes of living in various foreign countries, thereby allowing an active exchange between young people of the same generation in foreign countries and deepening mutual understanding amongst them the young people who will pave the way for subsequent generations.
Research for the Promotion of Young People's Creativity
Research and analyses are made into curricula and methods of guidance, which are effective for the development of creativity, and also influence the progress of creative ability on the basis of the results of the Invention Clubs for Schoolchildren activities. The JIII conducts research for contributing to more effective promotion of young people's creativity.
